Intellectual Property In-House Legal Counsel
Games Workshop has been creating compelling fantasy and science fiction intellectual property for over 35 years. Our core brand Warhammer is now a household name across the globe and we have an army of passionate and engaged fans. Delivering world class licensed products across multiple product categories creates complex and exciting challenges for the Games Workshop team.
That's where you come in!
We need a specialist in-house legal counsel to assist our Licensing Department with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating global licensing deals with our licensing partners.
You will report to the Legal Manager and advise the Licensing Department in connection with any and all intellectual property matters as they arise, including the drafting and negotiation of intellectual property licences, advising on copyright and trademark law, advising on industry standard practices for major brand licensing deals, and researching and advising on the risks in relation to new channels and new jurisdictions. You will also be required to liaise with third party legal counsel in a multitude of jurisdictions and analyse the impact of such advice and report this to back the business. To be successful in this role, you must be experienced in brand licensing and copyright and trademark law. Please note however that no patent experience is required.
What makes this job hard is understanding the business's goals and implementing them in a way which will future-proof and risk free. You'll need to be organised and diligent and able to communicate effectively with non-legal stakeholders.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Intellectual property licence drafting and negotiation
- Advising on copyright law and trademark law
- Advising on industry standard practices for branding and media projects
- Instructing external counsel (often in foreign jurisdictions) and maintaining a portfolio of legal advice
- Researching and providing guidance to the business
- Working collaboratively with other departments within GW
The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of current IP (Copyright and trademark) law with previous experience working with brand licensing and drafting and negotiating Intellectual Property licence documents.

Because of this we believe that what you are like, hence the attitude you show to work and the way you choose to behave is just as important as your skills and experience.
The Warhammer World site is based just outside of Nottingham city centre and benefits from a nearby tram stop and free onsite car parking.
In return for your hard work, you will receive 33 days holiday per year (including public holidays), matching contributory pension scheme up to 7.5%, profit share bonus (subject to GW meeting profit targets) and option to join our Share Save scheme. Oh and let's not forget, a staff discount of between 25% and 50% on our products!
