Employment Solicitor / Associate

We are looking for 1-6 year PQE Solicitor or Associate Solicitor to join our busy National Employment team based in any of our offices. You will have experience of advising employers in relation to both contentious matters and non-contentious advisory work and you will be confident in providing corporate support as well as handling your own tribunal caseload, both under supervision.

You will have the opportunity to work within a dedicated Employment team where you will support the partners and senior members of the team as part of a large commercial employment team, whilst handling your own tribunal caseload and advisory work under supervision.   You will demonstrate technical and commercial expertise and have the ability to deliver results within required timeframes in order to provide the highest service level to external clients whilst demonstrating and communicating a clear understanding of business needs/changes to internal clients.

You will also contribute to the growth and development of the team through business development activities and networking whilst demonstrating a genuine passion for employment law and commitment to both your own development and that of the team in this area of specialism.

You will have full overall responsibility for clearly understanding client requirements and consistently managing cases in line with service level agreements and best practice to achieve repeat business. You will confidently provide practical answers to employment helpline queries both verbally and in written form whilst ensuring best practice and technical accuracy at all times. Whilst managing a tribunal caseload with supervision, including interacting with clients, drafting all pleadings, statements and preparing bundles and demonstrate a willingness to perform your own advocacy at preliminary hearings you will prioritise your work effectively to maximise efficiency in working practices and maintain good service delivery, adhering to all necessary timetables/ deadlines.

You will be responsible for achieving your own individual budgeted financial measures whilst contributing to the team achievement, including, but not limited to:

    • budgeted sales revenue; aligned to personal target or team target (as applicable)
    • budgeted recovery rate
    • budgeted chargeable hours and average weekly chargeable hours metrics
    • management of lock up (WIP and debt) and disbursements in line with targets

As an experienced Employment Solicitor/Associate you will analyse risk and use sound judgement with decisions impacting on clients/practice area and anticipating both positive and negative consequences whilst working as part of a team, understanding individual role and performance in the Firm as well as commercial trends affecting practice area or potential business development activity.

You will be confident in client facing and presentation skills, building working relationships internally and externally in order to develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm’s direction and client needs to grow the team's client base.

 

We are keen to attract passionate people who have relevant legal qualifications and a solid experience of:

  • Working within relevant legal field/ demonstrable technical skills required for the specific practice area
  • Good level of technical experience and able to communicate technical concepts appropriately (verbal and written), modifying approach depending on audience
  • A clear understanding of the Business direction (products, service lines, sectors) and our Clients' needs (markets, sectors, risks)
  • Solid understanding of what service excellence looks like and how this applies to your role
  • Adapting to change internally and/ or in response to the needs of our clients
  • Being able to work autonomously but under supervision on a day to day basis
