Our client is one of the world's largest and most successful creators, producers and distributors of outstanding television brands, responsible for many of the world's highest rated prime time entertainment, drama, serial drama and factual entertainment.

The commercial distribution arm of the business has a network of international sales offices and licenses programmes to more than 200 territories worldwide.

We are looking to recruit a Director of LBA to join the high performing and collaborative team. Reporting to the VP of Legal and Business Affairs, this is a newly created role to support the growth of the business.

The role will focus mainly on the acquisition of content exploitation rights in independent productions (including various forms of co-productions, deficit financing models and output deals) and in-house produced programmes and formats.

There will also be an element of work across the distribution aspects of the team including licensing of rights and formats.

An important element of the work will be to contribute to the development of all of the team and particularly the junior members in respect of acquisitions and co production work. We are looking for a collaborative team player who is keen to share their knowledge and who will be invested in supporting the team in their acquisition work as well as managing their own workload.

There is flexibility around hybrid working and our client will consider candidates looking to work full time or a 4 day week.



Key responsibilities include:

* delivering business and legal affairs support on matters of key strategic, financial and reputational importance to the business;
* ensuring that the highest standards of corporate governance, risk management and compliance with law, policy and regulation are observed at all times;
* collaboratively supporting VP, Legal and Business Affairs particularly managing the negotiation and workflow for the acquisition of content exploitation rights and leading on key acquisitions, co-production and co-financing as well as providing business affairs deal making and contractual negotiation in relation to the full breadth and depth of the business.



Knowledge and skills

We are looking for a lawyer with substantial relevant media experience gained in house or in private practice and:

* Considerable knowledge and experience of international media environments, including particularly acquisitions, international co-production and co-financing.
* Knowledge and experience in particular of scripted content is an advantage (as is experience in theatrical films).
* Experience of drafting and negotiating contracts in a content licensing environment and a thorough understanding of the intellectual property rights involved.
* Detailed understanding of contract, commercial and intellectual property law and of the structures and systems within which broadcasters, producers, distributors (whether traditional or non-traditional e.g. digital) operate.
* Considerable knowledge of Intellectual Property rights relevant to the commissioning production and exploitation of television content.
* Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework within which the business operates, particularly the UK broadcasting industry.
