Salary: up to £25,000 depending on experience
We are looking to recruit a paralegal to join the Aviation team in London. This forms part of the Specialty team, which deals with a broad range of insurance litigation. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented person to experience a wide range of both international and domestic aviation work, predominantly contentious in nature, and to have significant responsibility and opportunity to develop with performance.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Assisting partners and lawyers with their caseloads and providing administrative support to the team
- Dealing with EC261 claims (claims against airlines for delay, cancellation, denied boarding)
- Drafting basic correspondence and preparing court and other documentation
- Potential for advocacy in the small claims track
- Liaising by phone and e-mail with client contacts and third parties
- Preparing instructions to experts/counsel and paper/electronic bundles of documents
- Co-ordinating meetings, events and seminars, in close co-operation with fee-earners
- Attending meetings and preparing attendance notes
- Legal research
- Ensuring compliance with deadlines, client service level agreements, relevant policies and procedures
- Completion of management information
- Carrying out conflict checks and opening new matters on the system
- Deal with confidential, sensitive and restricted internal and client matters
- Ad hoc support to campaign and marketing activities
- Provide assistance with billing (including sending invoices to clients) and debt recovery
- Effective liaison with support staff to manage workloads efficiently
- Assisting with other work allocated by the Team Manager
- Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You
- Experience of litigation is essential
- Experience of aviation or a demonstrated interest is desirable
- Professional and confident with a positive attitude
- Maintain a high level of accuracy
- Fully understands the importance of confidentiality, both internally and externally
- A self-starter with a strong sense of loyalty to the team and professional pride in your work product
- Any additional language skills are an asset
- Fluency in English
- Flexible, pro-active and works well under pressure
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
- Excellent IT skills
- Good teamwork skills
- Training on the job will be provided, where appropriate
