Aviation Solicitor

Job Description

Salary: £75 000 depending on experience

We are looking to recruit an experienced Aviation Associate (approximately 4-8 years PQE) to join the Aviation team in London.  This forms part of the broader Specialty team, which deals with a broad range of substantial, challenging work, largely of a contentious nature. The recruit will be expected to be able to quickly take on a wide range of aviation claims work, both domestic and international, with the possibility of involvement in aviation coverage and commercial work too.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Proactive management of cases with limited supervision
  • Assisting the partners with their caseloads
  • Preparing detailed and technical reports, correspondence and court documents
  • Liaising with insurer and insured clients, experts, witnesses, counsel and other parties
  • Ensuring compliance with client service level agreements, relevant policies and procedures
  • Supporting business development initiatives
  • Completion of management information
  • Supporting more junior members of the team
  • Assisting with other work allocated by the partners / Team Manager
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ and Aviation Team values

About You


    • Approximately 4-8 years PQE
    • Experience of Aviation litigation is essential
    • Previous secondment to or employment with an airline, aviation or insurance organisation and/or other aviation interests / skills / language skills would be advantageous
    • Ability to work to deadlines / targets, to prioritise and manage a caseload and to work under pressure to deliver effective solutions
    • Ability to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative
    • A self-starter with a strong sense of loyalty to the team and professional pride in your work product
    • A commercial, solution-driven and client-focused approach
    • Strong legal and analytical skills and an eye for detail
    • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude
    • Excellent IT skills
    • Excellent teamwork skills
    • Professional fluency in English
